Equally adept in classical and contemporary music, violinist Adam Woodward is a curious
seeker of new works and modes of expression through the violin.
Adam helped found and performs with the Fabrik Quartet, which took first prizes at the Festmus
re_cre@ Contemporary Music Competition in Castellón, Spain, and the International Rubenstein
Chamber Competition in Düsseldorf, Germany. He has performed with Ensemble Modern, SWR
Ensemble Experimental, and ensemble rizonanzi erranti. Two special performances for Adam
include performing Mark Andre’s rwh 1-4 cycle with Ensemble Modern in the Elbphilharmonie
in Hamburg and performing Olivier Messiaen’s Quatuor pour la fin du Temps.
Significant festival experiences for Adam include the Lucerne Festival Academy, Madeline
Island Chamber Music, and Ensemble Evolution. During the pandemic summers of 2020 and
2021, Adam was privileged to work one on one with composers to develop two new violin solo
works through the Composer’s Conference Contemporary Performance Institute. An experienced
chamber musician, Adam was an Artist Resident in Minneapolis with a MICM fellowship
quartet in 2018.
A graduate of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and Brigham Young University,
Adam studied violin with Paul Kantor, Monte Belknap, and Erin Keefe. He pursued
contemporary music studies in Frankfurt, Germany at the International Ensemble Modern
Academy, performing over 20 premieres and at the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik,
ManiFeste Festival Paris, and Gaudeamus Festival. With the Fabrik Quartet, he is currently
studying string quartets with Lucas Fels of the Arditti Quartet and Tim Vogler of the Vogler
Quartett at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt.
